Have you ever had a moment where you’re going along just fine and something jumps out at you, grabs you by the throat, and changes your entire perspective on a situation?
Yeah, I’ve been having one of those weeks.
My first clue that maybe I needed to pivot a little was when I realized The Choosing‘s true potential to reach readers. I’ve been absolutely blown away by the reception it’s gotten among SciFi Romance readers. Its sales rank is outstanding. Reviewers are using words like superb and delightful and excellent. Several people have come forward asking about a possible extension of the world into an actual series, while others have simply expressed a desire to read more.
And because I’m the fairy godmother of this story world (or something like that), I say wish granted.
When I first began writing The Choosing, I had ideas for possible sequels. Of course, I did. There’s so much potential there for more stories, and trust me, I have three series worth of ideas. (No kidding.)
Specifically, readers have asked about Tyelu af Alna, Ryn’s sister, and Dyuvad ab Mhij, the other man in the abduction scene. I’m planning stories for both, though I’m currently developing Dyuvad’s story. The working title is “Alien Mine.” This one is set at least partially on Earth. No idea when it will be published. It’s still a baby idea (ok, more like an adolescent) and I really need to do a lot more work on it before I’ll feel comfortable announcing a firm publication date, or anything else, for that matter. In the meantime, there’s a one-line description up on the book’s page, plus here’s a first look at graphics (cover imagery, etc.):
When I first started looking at an overall series arc, I had planned on writing Tyelu’s story right after Ryn’s. Her story will require way more research than I’ll need for Dyuvad’s, however, and since his could be read at any point after reading The Choosing, I decided to hold off on Tyelu until I had a chance to dig into said research. Sneak peek for her story: The hero is Jos Q’Mhel, an elite mercenary-soldier. (Q’Mhel is a title, by the way, but the whys and wherefores of that will have to wait until that story is written.) As far as the order of publication goes, I’m not promising that Tyelu’s story will be the third book in this series, but I have penciled it into my schedule and am diligently tracking down needed research.
So, the short answer to the title question is: Yes. The long answer is: As soon as possible. Until then, if you’re looking for more of my writing, there’s plenty to choose from. I suggest starting with The Prophecy, the first book in the Daughters of the People Series, particularly if you like strong female characters. It’s available as a free download pretty much everywhere. (Links are on the book’s page.) Or, if you really just want to wait until Dyuvad’s story is released, sign up for my newsletter so you’ll get notice when it becomes available.
I’m working on a blog post to answer a couple of other questions readers have, such as why the levels of technology in NetVerse are not hyper-advanced and/or evenly distributed, who in their right mind would pick the blue alien for a mate, and so on. I had a blast writing The Choosing. My editor has been encouraging me from the get-go to develop NetVerse into a series. (He says it’s “Star Wars with nookie.”) So, look for more stories and a couple of (hopefully) informative blog posts as soon as I can wedge them into my schedule.
