Trick or Treat!

In honor of the modern Halloween spirit, I have two treats and two tricks for y'all.

The first treat is an announcement, not about me or my books, but about something even better. There's a new book out edited by Katherine Howe, author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. The Penguin Book of Witches contains "real-life accounts of witches, from medieval Europe through colonial America." Howe's background is in history, and she has a well-developed interest in historical witches. I thoroughly enjoyed her Deliverance Dane book and recommend it as a solid Halloween read.

If you'd like to hear more about Howe's perspective on historical witches, be sure to read this interview, courtesy of NPR Books. I love reading history from original documents, so this is right up my alley. I hope readers of the Witches of Cullowhee Series will take the time to read it as well.

The other treat is a short story titled "Trick or Treat." (What, you expected something different on Halloween?) It's told from the perspective of Dierdre Bellegarde, the daughter of Maya Bellegarde of The Prophecy, an immortal Daughter who fears she'll never find love.

Be warned that if you haven't read The Prophecy yet, "Trick or Treat" won't make any sense to you. That's the first trick. The second trick is that this story will only be online for a couple of weeks (yes, I'm conveniently ignoring the existence of the Wayback Machine), so if you want to read it, do it now. Don't worry. It won't be lost forever. I'll be publishing it possibly next year as part of an anthology of short stories set in the world of the People.

In other news, I Heart Reading posted a fantastic review of The Enemy Within (Daughters of the People, Book 3) as part of the blog tour that book is doing, with the help of Enchanted Book Promotions. Many thanks to Majanka for the review!

We watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown last night. It's one seasonal treat I really look forward to. Hopefully, we'll also get to sneak in viewings of Hocus PocusPractical Magic, and other holiday favorites.

Finally, L.J. Anderson of Mayhem Cover Creations, cover designer for books in the Daughters of the People Series, is working miracles for the cover of Tempered (Book 3.5), so much so that I've now officially dubbed her Dr. Frankenstein.

Happy Halloween!
